The park is dating from the 1980s and was carved out of an area of derelict housing, a tile manufacturer, and the old Shoreditch gasworks. Haggerston Park contains a small but luxuriant nature reserve and a number of football pitches. It is also the home of the Hackney City Farm , which abuts the main park area to the southeast, on the site of a former brewery.
