Thames River Cruises

The River Thames that runs through London is almost as famous as some of London 's landmarks. The Thames is steeped in history, being the focal point of some events in London 's past. It was a river of some religious importance in the iron age and for centuries has been a major trade link to and from London .

A cruise up and down the River Thames gives tourists a unique view of London from its ancient and famous river. Many of London 's important landmarks can be seen from the river.

There is a variety of Thames tours available to tourists, and a number of tour operators. For hop-on/hop-off tours, there are two tour operators to choose from: Catamaran Cruisers offers unlimited one day point-to-point cruises to and from any of the following points: Embankment, Waterloo, Bankside, Tower, and Greenwich. Rates are 8 British pounds per person. City Cruises also offers similar unlimited travel to and from the same points and with the same rates as Catamaran Cruisers.

A circular cruise is also available from Catamaran Cruisers. This is a 50-minute, non-stop cruise that departs from Westminster Pier and offers spectacular views of London 's riverside attractions, such as the Houses of Parliament, London Eye, St. Paul's Cathedral, Tate Modern, and the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Tourists are given headsets through which they can listen to multilingual commentary throughout the tour.

For tourists who want a sumptuous meal to go with their tour, Porters Restaurant and Covent Garden Grill offer river tours and restaurant packages. Both depart from Waterloo Pier at 12:10 pm and take the same route, passing the Houses of Parliament, London Eye, HMS Belfast, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Canary Wharf , and Greenwich . The first leg of the tour ends in Greenwich, where tourists spend the afternoon. At around 4:10pm, the boat takes them back to Waterloo Pier and dinner, either at Porters Restaurant or at the Covent Garden Grill. The Porters package costs 28 British pounds per person, and the Covent Garden package costs 30 British pounds per person.
