St. George's Day

Other than the Notting Hill Carnival, London also celebrates with large parades held on St. George's Day (April 23) and St Patrick's Day (March 17).

St George's Day is celebrated along with several nations of whom Saint George is the patron saint. This includes England, Georgia, Bulgaria, Portugal, and Catalonia. In 1969, Saint George's feast day was reduced to an optional memorial in the Roman Catholic calendar but he is still honored as a saint of major importance by Eastern Orthodoxy. St George is also the patron saint of the scouting movement.
