Westminster Abbey

The Collegiate Church of St. Peter, Westminster, is more famously known as the Westminster Abbey. It is a Gothic church that has undergone many stages in its construction, beginning as a simple shrine in around 616 AD, and gradually being built up to the towering structure it is today. The Abbey is a true Gothic medieval masterpiece that has stood at the heart of Londonfor centuries. Since 1066, every British sovereign has been crowned in the Abbey, and the church has served as the burial ground for royalty, statesmen, scientists, musicians, and poets.

More than a religious structure, the Abbey represents the finest of Gothic art and architecture. Visitors can personally witness the artistic talent that created the statues, murals, paintings, tombs, and the exquisite stained glass of the Abbey. The largest and most important Roman Catholic church in England, the Westminster Cathedral, is but a short walk away from the abbey.
