Victoria and Albert Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum, or the V&A, is one of the most important and famous museums dedicated to the applied and decorative arts in the world. It was officially opened by Queen Victoria in 1852, originally named the South Kensington Museum. It was renamed in 1899 to honor Queen Victoria and her prince consort Albert. The museum has diverse collections of Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and, of course, European arts. There are over 145 galleries dedicated to sculpture, metal work, glass work, jewelry, musical instruments, furniture, architecture, and much more. The V&A is said to house the largest collection of Italian Renaissance sculpture outside of Italy. One of the most popular attractions in the V&A is the fantastic Dress Collection that features examples of dress, from historical times to 21st century fashion. Address: Cromwell Road Telephone: 020 7942 20 00
