St. Paul's Cathedral is the second largest dome in the world, next to St. Peter's in Rome. It attracts visitors and tourists like no other in London . It is arguably Sir Christopher Wren's masterpiece, and is certainly the finest building to be built during the reconstruction after the Great Fire of London in 1666. Today's St. Paul's is actually a fourth incarnation, all previous cathedrals having been destroyed in the past. The present-day structure is also remarkable for the fact that it survived the bombings in World War II, and it serves as an inspiration to all Londoners in trying times.
St. Paul's Cathedral plays host to important religious events, such as royal weddings and birthdays and funeral services for Britain's leaders. Visitors can see the medieval relics in the crypts and admire Victorian mosaics and excellent Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles. At the top of the dome, visitors are treated to spectacular views of the city.
