The Science Museum is London 's premier museum dedicated to science, industry, technology, and medicine. It was founded in 1857 as part of the South Kensington Museum . Since then it has changed name a number of times until it was finally renamed the Science Museum in 1885. Today, it showcases some of the most important scientific and technological advances of the past 300 years. There are over 300,000 items on display, including such prominent creations as the first jet engine, the DNA model of Francis Crick, some of the earliest steam engines, and Charles Babbage's Difference Engine. There is also a whole wing dedicated to the field of medicine and a complete IMAX 3D theater.
In the East Hall of the museum, visitors can find a book shop and the Revolution cafe.
