London Dungeon

The Dungeon is a museum dedicated to the darkest periods of British history. It recreates various bloody historical events in a style that tries to make history appealing to a younger audience. Some of the more prominent exhibits include the Great Fire of London , Jack the Ripper, Judgment Day, The Torture Chamber, Henry VIII, The Tower of London , and the Great Plague of 1665. Animatronics and waxworks portray these historical facts in grisly realism, complete with gruesome sound effects. And, fully costumed staff members jump out of the shadows once in a while at unsuspecting tourists. The Dungeon has, on occasion, been criticized for having less educational value than entertainment value, but children and younger teens absolutely love it. A visit to the Dungeon can be a good and fun way to instill an interest in history in kids.
