This beautiful and spacious palace was the birthplace of Queen Victoria in 1819, the birthplace of Queen Mary in 1867, and the residence of Princess Diana from 1981 to 1997. The palace was originally a private country house, adopted by William III and Mary II as their home during winters. For a period of about 70 years after, Kensington Palace became a key place in the life and government of the country. After the death of George II in 1760, Kensington Palace never again served as the residence of a reigning monarch.
Kensington Palace was first opened to the public in 1912. Visitors can see the finely decorated state rooms as well as the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection . Right outside the palace are the charming Kensington gardens.
