The Victoria and Albert Museum

The Victoria and Albert Museum s primary aim is to educate the working population and inspire British designers and manufacturers. It has an awe-inspiring permanent collection and it constantly changes its program of major exhibitions and smaller gallery displays. It has long been established as a leading advocate of contemporary art and design, born from the Great Exhibition of 1851.

The Museum, conceived as a "classroom for everyone," has evolved to the greatest museum of the decorative arts, spanning all continents and dating from 3000 BC. Among its highlights are the national collection of water-colors and photography, the Dress Collection, showing fashion from 1500 to the present day, the Jewelry Gallery including the Russian Crown Jewels, magnificent selections of Renaissance and Victorian sculpture, the famous 15th century Devonshire Hunting Tapestries, the Raphael cartoons, and the 20th Century Gallery, dedicated to contemporary art and design.

Certain exhibitions may be subject to an additional charge but generally, the admission is free. Furthermore, children's and family activities are available free of charge every weekend, while introductory gallery tours are held every hour.
